Rehabilitation of the Weir at the Moselle Lock in Koblenz

The weir was refurbished in several stages. For this purpose, Björnsen Consulting Engineers examined the external and internal structural stability of Piers I–IV and of the spillway sections (bays). For the rehabilitation of Bay 3, the existing invert was replaced and Pier III was extended toward both the headwater and the tailwater. In order to be able to carry out the necessary construction work, it was necessary to create an excavation pit. For this purpose, two temporary box cofferdams were constructed, which were connected to the piers by sheet piles. Subsequently, comparable work was planned for Bay 2.
